9/21/15 Spoke with mom. She said Alex is self conscious about not being able to read. He is a slower learner than his brother but great at sports. Mom says he has an attention problem and can get silly. Both parents want to know if he is not listening or being silly. Call lasted about 10 mins and was supportive and positive.
2/18/16- Mom asked about his work. I said I was mostly happy. I can see Alex making some big gains, especially in reading. She needs to have her eyes rechecked in March. Today was her birthday and she was very excited to come to school! mom asked how behavior and academics were going. She is worried that Bella isn’t reading much yet but knows she will catch on. Bella doesn’t see her dad. She has talked with a therapist. Everyone at home is stressed because of mom’s school and Bella’s ballet. Bella is refusing to do homework. I excused her from the homework for as long as mom feels is necessary. Mom says there is too much going on. But Bella likes school and wants to please us. Mom had not looked at the report card- too busy! She aid she would and she would get back to me if she has any questions! The call lasted about 40 mins it was positive but crazy- mom talked non stop and repeated herself quite a bit. Again- just overwhelmed!

2/4/16- Mom says everything is fine at home. She seemed a bit off, like she wasn’t feeling well or had just woken up. Glad that Charlotte is doing so well at school. I told mom I feel lucky to be her teacher.

Declan Molloy (Barbara/Liam Molloy)
9/21/15 Spoke with Dad. Dad just wanted to know how Declan was doing. I mentioned he was having trouble keeping his hands to himself. Dad says he wrestles at home with his brother. Dad is away but would speak to Declan when he gets home. Other than that, nothing else was said. Dad was short but positive. Said he wants Declan to behave.
2/4/16- Mom immediately asked how his social skills were. I told her he has trouble sharing, taking turns, being part of a group. Mom says she sees all of this at home as well. I suggested play dates with peers, monitored by an adult to help him with these skills. Declan is finally realizing that reading is fun. He loves the Junie B books. He wants to find more books that interest him. I told her that the librarians at the public library would help find books that he is interested in and can read himself! Mom wants to bring in treats for his birthday and asked about allergies. The call lasted about 10 mins and was positive.

He is really looking forward to that! Mom thanked me for everything. Call lasted about 10 mins and was positive.
Dillon Shifflett (Jenny Batton)
9/22/15 Mom was concerned that Dillon complains of tummy aches every morning. I said that once he is here at school he seems fine. He has asked to go to the nurse a few times but nothing that is worrisome. I have been able to redirect him each time and nothing has come of it. Mom says he went to the nurse a lot last year. I told her I thought maybe a tummy ache was his way of dealing with school that might be too hard for him. Mom agreed and said she would ask him if he was feeling like school was hard. We agreed to stay in touch about his “tummy aches.” The call lasted about 10 mins and was positive.
1/13/16 I called home and asked for a conference. We set up a time for the very next day. At the conference I told mom that I was very concerned about Dillon’s academics. He works hard all the time and isn’t making progress. I told her I wanted to put him up for evaluation. She agreed. She also shared that Dillon likes to fish and work on cars with his dad. If he could do that all day, he would! Dillon is a good boy at home and gets along well with his brothers. Homework time is fine. He usually does not want mom to help him.
5/4- Spoke with Mom while she was at work. I could hear her trying to help customers and talk to me. She really wanted to hear what I had to say. We both agreed that we were glad that Dillon will be getting support next year. He loves school and he works hard. Mom says Dillon loves us teachers. And he always wants to read at home. I will send Dillon some books for summer reading. Mom repeatedly thanked me for working with him this school year and by the end of the conversation she was crying with gratitude! Mom said she would talk to him about this. The call lasted about 10 mins. And was somewhat positive.
1/13/16- I spoke to mom briefly- she said she was concerned about Gabe not passing 1st grade. I told her he wouldn’t repeat because he already did but I too had concerns. She asked if she could come for a conference. I told her I would be at school and she could come at 4:45. The call lasted about 2 mins and felt rushed.
I waited until 5:15 but mom did not show.
I emailed mom and asked her if we could try again. I got no response. I called home a week later. She said she could meet that night at the same time, 4:45 but she did not show again. This concerns me.
5/4 Spoke with mom- she didn’t have much to say. Not sure if I caught her at a bad time. I asked if she had any concerns, she said no. I asked if she had any questions about the most recent report card. She said no, everything looked fine. I told her I’d really like Gabe to continue reading over the summer and I can send books home if she’s like me to- she said that would be fine. Call lasted about 5 mins and was neutral.
Ian Priddy (Erika/Mike Priddy)
9/22/15 Spoke with Mom. She said Ian is enjoying school. He loves learning and wants to come every day. She says that Ian seems to have adjusted nicely and she believes he is ready for a challenge. She says he “is on the move” a lot but he is smart and already enjoys reading. This call lasted about 10 mins and was positive.
2/18/16- Mom wanted to know if I had noticed Ian’s noises. Mom says Ian has struggled iwth impulse control since before K. Preschool teacher did not notice it but mom has. K teacher did not mention it until the end of the year. At home he is grunting, repeating words, biting/chewing. He has seen a child psychologist and mom was told these behaviors are anxiety related. Ian tells mom that he is stupid because he is having trouble at school. Mom says he is only calm and relaxed at home when he is playing with his legos. He can play for hours (hyperfocused). Mom says that Ian loves the monthly notes that I write to him!
Mom also asked if I could get the names of a few child psycologists from Mrs. Joyner because she is having a hard time getting an apt. But she doesn’t want me to use Ian’s name. She is also concerned about the right teacher for Ian for next year. The call lasted about 20 mins. It was helpful and informative. It was positive.
5/3- Spoke with Mom. She is glad Ian is doing better. She agrees that he is becoming more self aware of his inability to sit still and is working on that. She is thankful for the help and guidance that I have given to Ian. She reports that Ian loves to read and he reads all the time. She says the missed homework is her fault. She says that home is very crazy. Mom had not looked at most recent report card but will look and will let me know if she has any questions. The call lasted about 10 mins and was positive.
Jack Isley (Anna/Robert Isley)
8/31/15 Mom reports that Jack likes school, he is excited about coming each morning, he reports making new friends and says he like 1st grade more than K. Mom says he is better at reading than math. She would like a copy of our math guidelines so that she can work with him at home. Call lasted about 10 mins and was good.
1/13/16- Mom reports that she is not getting enough information from school about what Jack is doing. She would like updates between report cards. Jack uses a math notebook to work on math at home. Mom wanted to know if he was working where the other kids are. I told her he was working in the high math group and we were getting ready to send him to Monday math with Paula White. Mom liked hearing this. Mom says Jack loves the Magic Tree House book and they usually alternate pages when reading at home. Jack shares everything we do in school at home. Mom wanted to new form to show Jacks reading progress. She wanted me to up his number of sentences for his writing homework. She was concerned that he was using “and” and “then” at the beginning of every sentence. This was a long intense conversation but overall I think it was positive.
5/9- Spoke with mom. This was another very intense conversation. Mom says that communication has been her concern all year. That she does not know what Jack is doing. When she asked if his talking was a problem and I told her yes, she began yelling at me for not letting her know. Turns out Jack was not being truthful with his parents or me about his behavior. He was telling me that his parents told him to do better. He was telling mom that it only happened once. But mom yelled at me for about 15 mins without really giving me a chance to say anything. I interrupted her and told her I needed to end the call. She was chewing me out instead of talking about the problem. I told her I was willing to try again another day. This call lasted about 25 mins and was very negative. She also readhed out to Ms Crummie. I followed up with an email to mom that evening which read: Hi Anna,
I am so sorry that our phone call went the way that it did. Communication is important to me and I have dropped the ball when it comes to meeting your needs. Honestly, Jack is a good boy! A very good boy! I have enjoyed being his teacher! He has a great outlook on learning and school and he has plans for his life- which is amazing!!
I will let you know if Jack’s talking continues to be a problem. Again, I apologize.
Ginny

I explained that this took a long time and that it would be the middle of 2nd grade before an evaluation was complete.
5/2- Spoke with mom. She has no worries. She says she sees great improvement in his reading. I agreed but explained that he was still below grade level. She said she would continue to work with him. I asked if summer school would work for Jameson and she said it would. Mom said that Jameson has lost and broken two pairs of glasses. They are being very strict with where they keep the new glasses. I had him sit by himself one day. After that I told him he could go back to his table. Joseph did not want to. He stayed, by his own choice, at the independent desk for over 3 weeks. Mom seemed fine with that. She just wanted to make sure there wasn’t more to what was happening. Mom asked about keeping him going over the summer. I told her to have him read and do math each day. He is a great thinker and problem solver- she should watch for Ms White’s group in the future. The call lasted about 15 mins and was positive.

At his latest well child visit the dr gave them a workbook for coping strategies for anxiety for kids that are much worse than him. 2/18/16- Mom says that Bella is flourishing in school. She says that they are very busy. She swims twice a week, ballet once a week, play dates once a week! Bella loves school but is really tired when she gets home. She does want to have play dates with kids from our class. Mom wants to send in treats for her upcoming birthday. Call lasted about 15 mins. It was positive.
5/9- Spoke with Mom. Mom reports that Bella still loves school but she has been having tantrums at home. Mom says they are usually short lived and she is quickly back to being herself.
Charlotte Centofante (Laura/Peter Centofante)
8/31/15- Mom reports that Charlotte likes school, says she is sensitive and thrives on routine and structure. She has a walnut allergy and there is an epipen in the nurse’s office. Mom says no need to check labels. Mom says Charlotte is much different than her sister. The call lasted about 5 mins and was positive.
2/4/16- Mom says everything is fine at home. She seemed a bit off, like she wasn’t feeling well or had just woken up. Glad that Charlotte is doing so well at school. I told mom I feel lucky to be her teacher.
The call lasted about 5 mins and was positive5/2- Mo answer. Left message
5/3- Spoke with mom. Mom says she has no worries, no complaints, Charlotte is happy and doing well. She is proud of her. The call lasted less than 5 mins and was positive.
5/2- Spoke with mom. Says that Declan is determined to read at higher levels and that he is reading all the time! I assured her that he is on grade level and doing great! I can see great improvements. Mom hadn’t looked at most recent report card but has no concerns. There are summer plans for both an acting camp and a baseball camp for Declan.
The call lasted about 20 mins and was very positive.
Gabe Snow (Chasity Lawson)
9/22/15- Spoke with mom. She reports that everything is good with Gabe. He says he likes 1st grade. Mom says he is hyper and doesn’t like to stay in his seat. He pokes at others and doesn’t take mom seriously at home. He is a harder child than Nick. I did tell mom that he has avoidance behaviors- bathroom, new pencil, etc whenever it is work time.
Ginny
I have sense sent two emails home updating mom about Jack’s behavior.
Jameson Matheny (Misty/ Matheny)
8/31/15 Mom said that Jameson likes school so far. He is eager to come every day. Mom is concerned about Jameson’s stutter. She wants him to get back into speech asap. I told her that Jane had him on her list and she is working hard to get her schedule ready. Mom talked about Jameson’s birth mom. That she doesn’t have contact with Jameson and Jameson knows that he is adopted. He is beginning to ask questions about this. Mom wants me to be mindful of this as we begin talking about family. Call lasted about 15 mins and was positive.

At the conference we talked about how Jameson was working below grade level- I am concerned about a learning disability. I told her I wanted to start the process of RTI which may lead to evaluation if progress isn’t made.
I asked if she had any questions about the report card- she said no. Records show that parents have not looked at the report card at all this year. The call lasted about 10 mins and was positive.

5/3- Spoke with Mom. She said she had no questions but wanted to know why Joseph was sitting by himself. I told her that Joseph had been talking and ignoring warnings.
Kinley Callihan (Christy/Justin Callihan)
8/31/15- Mom reports that Kinley is happy at school She is adjusting to having new friends in our classroom. Her friends from last year are all in a different class. Phone call was positive and lasted about 10 mins.
1/11/16- Mom reports that Kinley is reading a ton. She loves to read. She doesn’t want to request a teacher for next year but she wants Kinley to be in a class with someone that she already knows, like Caroline G. This year she had no immediate girlfriends. Mom says she is good for everyone else but changes for mom. She doesn’t listen, she yells at mom, she throws things and slams doors. I told mom I don’t see any of this at school. I asked mom about summer school. She said that she didn’t think she would send her. She didn’t want her to ride the bus and there wouldn’t be anyone to take her and pick her up. 2/18/16 Left message with mom and dad
2/23/16- Spoke with mom. She asked how he was doing. I told her that academically he is fine, at the top of the class, I have no academic worries. I also told her I remain concerned about anxiety for Walter. Everything makes him anxious. He apologizes for everything. Mom said they see a little of it at home but nothing that would make them think he needs medicine. She said they want to deal with it now so that he won’t need meds as a teenager. At his latest well child visit the dr gave them a workbook for coping strategies for anxiety for kids that are much worse than him. She said that they may start using the workbook since I have some concerns. (The fact that it was talked about at a well visit tells me it’s either happening at home more than they are reporting or that the dr has noticed it as well.) Mom reports that Walter likes school and talks about each day with them every evening! The call lasted about 10 mins. It was tough but positive.
5/9- Spoke with mom. She said she had not worries. They are happy with everything. She says Walter likes coming to school. Asked if there was a whistling problem. 1/12/16- Warners mom is still concerned that he is not playing enough. That my class is too structured. She reiterated that Warner had sensory issues as a baby and that he was checked for autism. Mom says that school makes him hyper because he is excited to play. I told mom that he is not hyper in school. The biggest problem is inattention and back talk. Mom thinks I am complaining about Warner. I told her I am not complaining but expressing great concern for Warner’s academics. I suggested good classmates that would make good play dates for Warner. Mom said that it is too hard to have play dates. Mom requested a conference for the following week to continue our discussion.

They need to make him grow up to be a good person. Mom is happy with his reading progress. He reads everything he can at home! Mom wished me well with the upcoming wedding. This call lasted about 15 mins and was positive. This call was much different than the mid-year call.
